One brave soul from Willesden Seventh-day Adventist Church shaved off her luscious locks on 31st May to raise money for a breast cancer charity.*
Corporal ‘Bobby’ Collet Prince, 35, decided to go for the big chop as she said it was a fitting tribute to some of her loved ones who have lost their hair because of cancer.
Collet took up the gauntlet to stand in solidarity with those who have been affected by cancer, and aimed to raise £3,000 for Cancerkin, which is a charity for people affected by breast cancer.
“I chose to sacrifice my hair to beat cancer, and I wanted to stand up with not only my sister and my cousin, but with all the women that I know who have been attacked by this vile disease called cancer, “ Collet said passionately.
She continued: “I consider my hair to be beautiful, but what is beauty if I can’t sacrifice it to help someone? God gave his only son to save me. I shaved off my locks as a personal sacrifice to stand up to all kinds of cancer.”
Armed with only her colleagues for support, Collet allowed her hair to be shaved off by a work mate for 25 grueling minutes at the Normandy Barracks in Aldershot.
“While my hair was being shaved off, I was hoping and praying that people will donate money to this cause. I was also wondering about how I would look and if it would suit me,” said Collet.
People have since complimented Collet on her new look and she now proudly sports her new hairstyle, so that’s one prayer that has been answered.
However she has yet to reach her £3,000 target and has so far raised around £2,320 for Cancerkin at the time of writing.
She said she would love to reach her target and to know that her effort has not been in vain.
